Who you buy from

GutenFields is a WordPress plugin published by Syntaxion Limited, a company registered in England & Wales under number 12604886. These terms cover this website, the GutenFields plugin and the licence keys sold here. Buying a licence, or using the account portal, means you accept them.

Reach us at support@guten-fields.com. That address is the right one for everything — support, billing, refunds, and anything in these terms you think is wrong.

What you are buying

A GutenFields licence key is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There is nothing recurring, and nothing to cancel. It buys you three things:

• Automatic updates to the paid edition, delivered through the WordPress updates screen.
• The official download of each release, from your account.
• Priority support by email, for the entitlement year described below.

The right to use the plugin is perpetual. Once you have bought a licence, the copy you have installed keeps working on the number of production sites your tier allows, for as long as you want to run it — including after your entitlement year ends. What stops at the end of that year is new updates and support, not the software.

The tiers, seat counts and prices are on the pricing page, which is the authoritative list. Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT, so the figure on the pricing card is the figure you pay.

The free edition

There is a free edition of GutenFields on WordPress.org. It is a finished plugin rather than a trial: it never expires, needs no key, and makes no network requests at all. It is covered by the same GPL, and it is supported through the WordPress.org forums rather than by priority email support.

Nothing in these terms restricts the free edition. They matter to you only once you buy a key.

Placing an order

Checkout is handled by our payment provider. Your order is an offer to buy; the contract is formed when we confirm it — in practice, when the email carrying your licence key is sent. If we cannot fulfil an order, we will say so and refund it in full.

Who the seller is

This depends on which checkout you used, and the difference is real rather than cosmetic:

• Through Paddle. Paddle is the merchant of record: Paddle sells the licence to you in its own name, on behalf of Syntaxion Ltd, and is responsible for collecting and remitting the sales tax or VAT due where you are. Paddle's own buyer terms apply to that transaction alongside these terms, and your receipt comes from Paddle.
• Through PayPal. PayPal is a payment processor, not a merchant of record. Syntaxion Ltd is the seller, and your receipt comes from PayPal on its behalf.

Either way, the licence, the updates and the support are ours, and these terms are the ones that describe them. A VAT invoice comes with every purchase. If you need a purchase order raising first, email us before you buy.

VAT

Syntaxion Ltd is registered for UK VAT under number GB 349 393 560, which is why the prices on this site are quoted inclusive of it. Under the Paddle checkout the VAT on your purchase is Paddle's to charge and remit as merchant of record, and its own registration is the one that appears on your invoice; under PayPal it is Syntaxion's, under the number above.

Card details

We never see or hold your card details. They are entered into the payment provider's own fields and stay with them; what reaches us is your email address, the tier you bought and the provider's order reference.

The entitlement year

Every purchase includes one year of updates and priority support, running from the date of purchase. Your account page shows the exact date it runs to.

When it ends, nothing is switched off: your sites keep running the version they have, and the key stays valid for the sites attached to it. You simply stop receiving new releases and priority support.

To get another year, buy the same licence again. A repurchase made with the same email address and tier extends the key you already have rather than issuing a new one, so there is nothing to swap out on your sites. Because it is a fresh purchase rather than a renewal, there is no recurring payment, no card on file and nothing to cancel.

Sites, seats and environments

Each tier allows a number of production activations — one for Single-site, five for Agency, unlimited for Unlimited. Only production sites consume a seat.

Local, development and staging copies are free, allowed at ten per production seat bought. That is deliberately roomy: a working agency has more environments than live sites, and a flat allowance would start refusing ordinary work.

A site's environment is decided in this order: what you have chosen for it in the account portal, then what the site itself declared, then hostname detection. Declaring an environment is trusted rather than verified — there is no reliable way to prove one from outside — so declaring a production site as staging in order to avoid using a seat is a breach of these terms, even though the software will not stop you.

You can move a site off a key at any time from your account, which frees the seat immediately. There is no cooling-off period and no limit on how often you may do it, in the ordinary course of rebuilding and retiring sites.

Sharing a key

A key is issued to you for the sites you control. Publishing it, reselling it, or handing it out so that other people can take updates from it, is a breach. This is not a restriction on the code — the GPL settles that — it is a limit on the service the key gives access to.

Your account

The account portal has no passwords. You sign in with the email address you bought with, and we mail a one-time code. Two consequences worth knowing:

• Access to that mailbox is access to your licences. Anyone who can read the address can sign in, so keep it secure and tell us if it is compromised.
• If you lose the address, email us. We can move an account and its licences to a new address once we are satisfied you are the buyer.

Keep the address current. It is where your key, your updates notices and any refund correspondence go.

Support

Priority support is by email at support@guten-fields.com, in English, during UK business hours, for the length of your entitlement year. Include your licence key and your WordPress and PHP versions and you will get a faster answer.

Support covers the plugin: how it works, what it can do, and anything in it behaving differently from the documentation. It does not extend to writing your theme, debugging unrelated plugins, or general WordPress consultancy, though we will usually tell you where the problem actually is.

We aim to reply within two business days. That is an aim, not a service-level guarantee, and this is a small company — if a reply matters to a deadline, say so in the first message.

Refunds

There is a 14-day refund window on every purchase. The full policy, including how to ask and what happens to your key afterwards, is on the refund policy page, which forms part of these terms.

Using the licence server fairly

The licence server at api.guten-fields.com exists to activate sites, check entitlements and deliver updates. Please do not:

• attempt to obtain keys, downloads or another customer's data you are not entitled to;
• forge or brute-force keys, sign-in codes or session tokens;
• load the service to the point of degrading it for other customers; or
• use the site or the service to break the law, or to infringe anyone else's rights.

Security research is welcome. If you find a vulnerability, email us before you publish it and we will work with you.

Changes to the plugin and the service

GutenFields is developed continually, largely because the block editor's own APIs move continually. Features are added, and occasionally something changes shape. Where a change breaks compatibility we will say so in the release notes and, when it is significant, by email.

We do not promise that the website or the licence server will be available without interruption. Both need maintenance, and both depend on providers we do not run. What we do promise is that an outage cannot stop your sites working: the plugin does not phone home to render or edit content, and it keeps running whether or not our server can be reached.

If we ever stop selling GutenFields, we will publish what happens to existing keys and entitlement years before it takes effect, and honour the years already bought.

Warranties and liability

We warrant that the plugin will work substantially as the documentation describes. If it does not, tell us: the first answer is a fix, and within the first 14 days a refund is always available instead.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, the software is provided as is, without further warranties. That is the ordinary position for GPL software and is stated in the licence itself.

Take backups and test on staging. GutenFields writes to your database and takes part in rendering your site. Any plugin can interact badly with a particular theme, host or other plugin, and the only reliable protection against that is a backup and a staging environment — which is why non-production copies are free.

We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of data, or any indirect or consequential loss. Where we are liable, our total liability for all claims arising out of a licence is limited to the amount you paid for it.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected by any of this.

Suspension and termination

We may disable a licence key if the purchase is refunded or charged back, or if the key is being used in breach of these terms — typically the sharing or resale described above. We will email you first unless the abuse is ongoing and serious.

Disabling a key stops updates, downloads and support. It does not remove the software from your sites, and it cannot: the GPL guarantees your right to keep running the copy you have. That is a deliberate consequence of licensing it this way, not an oversight.

You can stop using the plugin whenever you like. Delete your account by emailing us, and see the privacy policy for what happens to the data.

Law, disputes and changes to these terms

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings there.

We may change these terms — to reflect a change in the product, in a payment provider, or in the law. The version on this page is the current one and carries the date it was last changed. A change does not apply retrospectively to a purchase already made: the terms in force on the day you bought are the ones that govern that purchase.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
