No subscription. Ever. And we're not going to take that away.

Every other field plugin worth using has moved to a renewal you can't switch off, and the one that offered a lifetime licence withdrew it. So it is worth being exact about what you're buying here: one payment, and the plugin is yours on every site your tier allows, for good. Not a year's access that lapses into a nag screen — the code keeps running, unchanged, whether or not you ever pay us again.

What the year buys is the ongoing work: new versions delivered to your Plugins screen, and priority support from the person who wrote it. When the year is up, that pauses and nothing else does. Want another? Buy the same licence again and your existing key extends — there is no card on file, no auto-renewal, and nothing to cancel. Buy it the year you want it and skip the years you don't.

How activation works

After checkout you get a licence key by email. Paste it under GutenFields → Licence in wp-admin and click Activate. Single-site binds to one production URL, Agency to five, Unlimited has no cap. Staging, local and *.test sites never count against your limit — and your account shows every site on every key, so you can move one whenever you need to.

Updates, the WordPress way

For your first year, new versions appear right on your Plugins screen — one click, like any other update. After that the plugin keeps working exactly as installed; you simply stop receiving new releases until you buy another year.

GPL, and honest about it

GutenFields is GPL-2.0 — your licence buys official signed updates and support, not a restriction on the code. No dark patterns, no phone-home kill switch. Just a fair deal for ongoing work.

Free and Pro are the same plugin

Pro is the free edition plus four things: repeater and flexible content fields, the gallery field, and options pages. Everything else — the builder, conditional logic, the template helpers, the WP-CLI toolkit, the JSON import and export — is in the free edition and stays there. Blocks you built on Free open unchanged on Pro; nothing is migrated and nothing is locked behind a key.

Pricing questions

The fine print, in plain terms.

Q. What exactly happens after a year?
Nothing breaks. Your licence is perpetual, so GutenFields keeps running on your sites forever. What pauses is new updates and support. There's no subscription — if you want another year of updates, buy the same licence again and your existing key simply extends. Buy only when you actually want the newest version.
Q. What's the difference between free and paid?
Four features. Paid adds the repeater and flexible content fields, the gallery field, and options pages — the things you reach for once a site stops being a handful of one-off blocks. Everything else is in the free edition on WordPress.org and stays there: the admin field builder, the other 19 field types, conditional logic, theme templates, the template helper functions, JSON import and export, and the WP-CLI commands. The free edition is a finished plugin rather than a trial, it never expires, and it makes no network requests at all.
Q. Which tier do I need?
Count your live sites. One production website is Single-site. A freelancer or small studio with a client list is Agency, at five. If you've stopped counting — or you'd rather not think about it again — Unlimited has no cap. Staging, local and development copies are free on every tier and never enter the arithmetic, so the number you need is the number of sites the public can reach. If you outgrow a tier, email support@guten-fields.com and we'll take the difference and move you up on the same key.
Q. How do I pay, and who am I buying from?
Checkout is handled securely by our payment provider — pay with a card, or a PayPal balance. Every purchase is a one-time payment: there's nothing recurring and nothing to cancel. The seller is Syntaxion Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales, and your receipt comes from the payment provider on its behalf. Prices are in GBP and include VAT, so the price on the card is what you pay. A VAT invoice comes with every purchase; if you need a purchase order raising first, email support@guten-fields.com before you buy.
Q. Can I move a licence to a different site?
Yes, and you don't need access to the old site to do it. Sign in to your account with the email you bought with: every key is listed with the sites attached to it, and you can add a site, remove one, or move one straight from one key to another. You can also still deactivate from GutenFields → Licence in wp-admin if the old site is to hand.
Q. I'm a developer — do my local and staging copies use up my licence?
No. Only production sites count, on every tier including Single-site, so one £79 licence covers your live site plus your laptop, your staging server and a client preview — ten free non-production copies per production seat you've bought. We recognise the obvious ones automatically — *.test, localhost, staging.example.com, the staging hostnames the big WordPress hosts hand out. For anything else, set define( 'WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE', 'staging' ); in that site's wp-config.php and the plugin tells us, or just switch the site to Staging in your account.
Q. Do you offer refunds?
If GutenFields doesn't work as described, email support@guten-fields.com within 14 days of purchase and you'll get a full refund. Because it's downloadable software you can keep, refunds are for genuine problems rather than change of mind — but we'd always rather sort out the problem. The refund policy has the detail: how to ask, how the money comes back, and what happens to your key.
Q. It's GPL — why pay at all?
Because your money buys the things a stray copy can't give you: official signed releases the moment they ship, delivered straight to your Plugins screen, plus real support from the person who wrote it. That's what funds the next year of work.
Q. Why is this a one-off when everyone else charges yearly?
Because a renewal you can't switch off is a worse deal and we'd rather not pretend otherwise. The trade is priced in, not given away: a one-time price has to cover several years of keeping up with the block editor, which is why these tiers cost more up front than a first-year subscription does. What you get for that is a plugin that cannot be taken away from you, on a bill that cannot quietly grow. If a year goes by where nothing lands that you need, don't buy it — the sites you've already built carry on exactly as they are.
